KENYA MISSES BIG TIME ON TOP COMPANY LIST

Recently, Y-Comninator released a list of its top companies and Kenya was a no show.

YCombinator’s list of 2023 2023 is out, and Kenya is no where to be seen.

This year's ranking, which is broken down into 4 categories named "YC's top private, public, exited, and breakthrough companies" and is organized according to the valuations of each company's most recent investment round, includes the best private, public, exited, and breakthrough companies.

Several familiar names, like Flutterwave, make up the 294 startups in the top private companies list from Africa. The most valuable African business to have received funding from YC is the Nigerian fintech unicorn, which is now ranked 30th on the list.

Only these African startups made it to the list

Some of the Kenyan startups that have received funding from YC include:

  1. Fingo - A neo bank for Africa’s youth

  2. Kidato - Online school for K12

  3. WorkPay - HR and payroll processing

  4. Marketforce - Operating system for retail distribution in Africa

  5. Saida - A bank account that lets you separate, spend and track money

  6. Nala - Bank for Africans globally
